Your Colwyn Bay Online Directory and Community

Yesterday I visited Porth Eirias in Colwyn Bay about 13.45 pm. There already were a lot of people there: all of them were waiting for the arrival of Jeremy Corbyn, the UK Labour Party Leader, that man that until the last day fought against the apparent unbeatable Conservative Party.
Minute by minute the crowd kept building and finally, around two o’clock pm, the Leader of the Opposition finally arrived.
I was about 20 meters from him, sitting on a hill located on the left side of the place where he spoke. I was with a lot of different people,  teenagers and students. I could easily recognize them because of their school uniforms. There  were many mothers with their children, in addition to many older people.



I saw that everyone was happy to see Jeremy. I could sense the hope in the people that were listening his speech. I didn’t understand every single detail of his speech, but I’m sure that he spoke of security, the NHS and cuts to public funding. I felt that Jeremy’s words about the environment were the best of the entire speech and undoubtedly the part that I appreciated most.  

It was a memorable experience to see so many young people like myself participate in an such an active way in their country’s civic and social life.

EXTENDED ITALIAN POST:

L'altro giorno ho visitato Porth Erias, luogo che potete piú semplicemente chiamare "lungomare di Colwyn Bay". Ma perché ero li? La sera precendente il mio datore di lavoro mi ha contattato dicendomi che ci sarebbe stato Jeremy Corbyn proprio nel paese dove vivo e che secondo Lui sarebbe stata una bella esperienza per me andarlo a vedere. Io non mi sono di certo tirato indietro e infatti, verso le 13.45 ero giá li. C'era giá molta gente che aspettava il Leader del Partito Laburista: giovani, molti studenti, mamme con i propri figli, anziani.

Minuto dopo minuto la folla continuava a crescere ed infine, verso le 14:00, finalmente il Leader dell'Opposizione é arrivato. Io ero a circa 20 metri da lui, seduto su una collinetta alla sinistra (coincidenze? io non credo) del palchetto dove lui parlava. Durante tutto il discorso potevo provare, sentire e vedere la speranza delle persone intorno a me. Il comizio di Jeremy é stato molto appassionato e acceso: ha parlato dei tagli alla spesa pubblica, sistema sanitario, ambiente. Quest'ultimo tema é stato quello che piú   ho apprezzato e condiviso: Corbyn non si é risparmiato nel criticare duramente le scente del Presidente degli Stati Uniti.

É stata un'esperienza memorabile: vedere cosí tanti giovani della mia etá partecipare in maniera cosí attiva alla vita civile e sociale del proprio paese mi ha dato un po' di speranza nel futuro. Poi mi sono svegliato e mi sono ricordato che non sono in Italia, ma nel Regno Unito.
